Matthew S Leung completed his PhD McGill University. A prestigious Vanier Scholarship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research supported his PhD research. During his research career, Matthew has investigated the ontological process of natural killer (NK) cell education and its role in determining the potential of NK cells to mediate direct and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC).

He has also investigated the properties of 1F7-idiotypic antibodies directed against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and demonstrated that these antibodies exhibit cross-clade reactivity and that anti-HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies develop from this immunoglobulin repertoire. Upon concluding his PhD, Matthew commenced a post doctorate at the University of Melbourne.
